New Holland 3903 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Fuel Temperature Sensor: Physical Signal above maximum limit
Descrizione del problema
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the fuel temperature sensor that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This usually points to an electrical fault such as a short circuit to battery voltage (Ubat), an open circuit in the sensor's ground wire, or a sensor that has internally failed. In rare cases, it can indicate that the actual fuel temperature is dangerously high.

Verifica la causa
Connect a diagnostic tool and read the live fuel temperature data. Compare it to the ambient temperature when the engine is completely cold. A maxed-out reading confirms a sensor or wiring fault.
Inspect the wiring harness between the fuel temperature sensor and the ECU. Look for chafed wires causing a short to power (Ubat) or a broken ground wire.
Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or loose contacts.
With the key on and sensor disconnected, check the reference voltage supplied by the ECU to the sensor connector.
Passaggi di riparazione
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to protect the ECU.
Locate the Sensor
The fuel temperature sensor is typically located on the primary fuel filter housing, the fuel manifold lines, or near the high-pressure pump inlet.
Test the Sensor
Using a multimeter, measure the internal resistance across the sensor's pins. Compare the reading to the OEM resistance chart for the current ambient temperature. If the circuit is open (infinite resistance) or severely out of spec, the sensor is faulty.
Replace the Sensor
If the sensor fails the test, unthread the old sensor from the housing. Have a rag ready to catch minor fuel spillage. Thread the new sensor in and tighten to OEM torque specifications.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the sensor tested fine but the harness showed a short to power or an open ground during diagnostics, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness and apply heat-shrink tubing.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use your diagnostic tool to clear fault code 3903. Start the engine and verify the code does not return.
