Kubota P204F – ACU: DEF/AdBlue Level Too Low

This code indicates a Reductant System Performance issue where the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system does not perform as expected. It triggers when the DEF tank sensor indicates 0% or less, or if a leakage condition is detected (such as the refueled amount being less than the pre-drain amount after engine stop). This fault will typically cause the engine to enter a Level 2 limited state (limp mode).

   Verify the actual physical level of the DEF/AdBlue in the tank and ensure the fluid is fresh and not contaminated or expired.

   Inspect the DEF tank, delivery lines, and pump for any visible signs of leakage or white crystalline buildup.

   Use a diagnostic scanner to check the DEF level sensor's actual value versus the physical level in the tank to ensure plausible readings.

   Check the reductant injector for blockages caused by crystallized urea.

   Check wiring and fuses by inspecting the wiring harness and connectors for the DEF pressure sensor and level sensor for heat damage, corrosion, or shorts.

   Refill the DEF tank

   Drain any old or questionable DEF and refill the tank with fresh, high-quality ISO-22241 diesel exhaust fluid. If the engine has stopped and the DEF has drained, ensure the amount refilled is greater than the pre-drain amount to avoid a secondary malfunction (P20F5).

   Clean the DEF injector

   If clogged, unbolt the reductant injector from the exhaust and soak the tip in warm distilled water to dissolve any crusty white urea buildup. Reinstall the injector.

   Purge the SCR system

   Turn the key switch to the OFF position and wait for the SCR system to complete its automatic purge process (wait at least 10 seconds).

   Replace faulty components

   If the tank is leaking or the internal level sensor has failed and cannot be recalibrated, replace the DEF tank assembly or the DEF level sensor unit.
