E-93

Kubota E-93 – Engine ECU: Relay for engine-starter-motor is in trouble

Descrizione del problema

A fault in the starter relay circuit (such as a voltage drop, short, or failed relay coil) prevents the engine from starting. In many cases, a buzzing sound can be heard from behind the dash when turning the key, indicating the relay is failing to hold a magnetic charge, often due to insufficient voltage.

Verifica la causa

  1. Perform a battery load test, as a weak battery is a primary cause of relay buzzing and the E-93 code (a battery reading 12.8V on a bench can still fail under load)

  2. Inspect battery connections for loose or corroded terminals and ground cables

  3. Check the starter relay fuse on the main fuse block (e.g., the 5A fuse designated for the Starter Relay on L3301/L3901 models)

  4. Inspect safety switches (PTO switch, HST switch, and clutch safety switches) to ensure they are not interrupting the starter circuit

Passaggi di riparazione

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits.

  2. Locate the Relay

Remove the steering wheel, rear bonnet, and meter panel (dash) to access the electrical components. The starter relay is typically grouped with other relays behind the dash.

  3. Test the Relay

Remove the starter relay. Apply 12V battery voltage across the coil terminals (typically terminals 2 and 4). Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the switched terminals (terminals 1 and 3). It should read zero ohms when energized. If it does not, the relay is defective.

  4. Check Wiring

If the relay tests good, check for 12V at the starter solenoid "ST" terminal when the key is turned. If voltage is missing, trace the wiring harness back to the ignition switch for breaks or shorts.

  5. Replace and Reassemble

Plug in the new OEM starter relay, reassemble the dash panels, and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

Disconnecting the battery briefly will often reset the system. Otherwise, a Kubota PC Service Tool or diagnostic scanner may be required to clear the E-93 code from the ECU.
