6.2

Iveco 6.2 – Engine ECU (EDC module): Sensor on the timing gear

Descrizione del problema

The Engine Control Unit is receiving no signal or an implausible signal from the camshaft position sensor, causing the engine management system to lose its reference for the exact position of the camshaft. Symptoms include the EDC/injector warning light flashing or staying illuminated, extended cranking times, hard starting, intermittent stalling, and reduced engine power.

Verifica la causa

  1. Inspect the wiring loom leading to the camshaft position sensor for a broken signal wire (often the white wire) at the loom connector.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or loose connections.

  3. Test sensor resistance: For inductive types (older 2.8L engines), check for approximately 850 Ohms across the pins. For newer Hall-effect sensors, verify a 12V supply, ground, and a pulsing signal wire.

  4. Verify mechanical timing to ensure there are no misaligned timing belts or worn timing components causing an implausible signal.

Passaggi di riparazione

  1. Locate the Sensor

Locate the camshaft position sensor at the top front of the engine, near the timing gear/distribution shaft, often under the engine cover.

  2. Disconnect the Battery

Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on engine sensors to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Disconnect the Sensor

Unplug the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Remove the mounting bolt(s) securing the sensor to the engine block or cylinder head and carefully pull the sensor out of its bore.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Lubricate the new sensor's O-ring/seal ring lightly with clean engine oil. Insert the new sensor into the bore, ensuring it seats fully.

  6. Secure and Reconnect

Tighten the mounting bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque. Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place.

  7. Clear the Fault Code

Reconnect the battery. Use an Iveco-compatible OBD-II diagnostic scanner or the manual EDC blink code clearing procedure (using the diagnostic button) to clear the stored 6.2 fault code from the ECU's memory.

  8. Test Drive

Start the engine to verify that the extended cranking issue is resolved and the EDC warning light remains off.
