Iveco 40 – ECAS ECU: Incompatibility of signals when lifting the frame

Descrizione del problema

Malfunction or implausible signal reading from the Right rear level sensor during a lifting operation. The system detects that the physical height change (or lack thereof) does not match the expected electrical signal from the sensor when air is commanded into the suspension bellows.

Verifica la causa

  1. Inspect the right rear level sensor's physical linkage arm connecting the chassis to the axle for bends, breaks, or disconnection.

  2. Check the sensor's wiring harness and connector for corrosion, moisture, or a short circuit.

  3. Connect a diagnostic interface and view live parameters. Command the suspension to lift and observe if the right rear sensor's voltage/counts change smoothly or drop out.

  4. If the sensor signal reads correctly but the frame isn't lifting, check the ECAS solenoid valve for internal leaks or blockages preventing air from reaching the right rear bellows.

Passaggi di riparazione

  1. Preparation

Safely support the vehicle chassis using appropriate stands. Ensure the air suspension system is safely depressurized if required by your specific workshop manual.

  2. Removal

Disconnect the electrical harness from the right rear level sensor. Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket on the frame rail and disconnect the linkage from the axle housing.

  3. Installation

Position the new ECAS height sensor on the mounting bracket. Install the mounting bolts and tighten them to 9 lb-ft (12 N•m) (or according to specific Iveco model torque specs). Reconnect the linkage arm and the electrical harness.

  4. Mandatory Calibration

Connect your diagnostic tool (e.g., WABCO PC Diagnostic or TEXA). Follow the software prompts to initiate level calibration. Lift the chassis using the diagnostic tool, insert the specified mechanical calibration spacers between the axle and chassis, and then completely discharge the air so the chassis rests on the spacers. Save the values in the control unit. Once stored, the error code will clear and the warning light will turn off.
