Iveco 20 – ECAS Electronic Control Unit (ECU): Right Rear Level Sensor Malfunction

Descrizione del problema

The right rear level sensor measures the distance between the vehicle's chassis and the rear axle. The fault is triggered when the sensor sends an out-of-range signal, no signal, or an incorrect resistance value, preventing the system from accurately determining or adjusting the ride height on the right side of the vehicle.

Verifica la causa

  1. Inspect the sensor's electrical connector for water ingress, freezing, or oxidized contacts. Cleaning and drying a corroded connector can often restore the signal.

  2. Check the mechanical connecting rods (linkage) between the sensor and the chassis to ensure they are not bent, detached, or damaged.

  3. Test the wiring harness between the ECAS ECU and the sensor for interruptions or shorts. Check the sensor's resistance (typically 100-140 ohms depending on the model).

  4. Connect a diagnostic scanner (e.g., TEXA or Jaltest) and view live data to confirm if the right rear level sensor is reading out of range or missing entirely.

Passaggi di riparazione

  1. Support vehicle chassis

Safely support the vehicle chassis to prevent sudden drops in suspension height.

  2. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the right rear level sensor.

  3. Detach connecting rod

Detach the mechanical sensor-chassis connecting rod.

  4. Replace level sensor

Unbolt and remove the faulty sensor, then mount the replacement sensor.

  5. Reattach components

Reattach the connecting rod and plug in the electrical connector. Ensure correct mounting to avoid signal errors.

  6. Calibrate ECAS system

After replacing a level sensor, the ECAS system must be calibrated via self-diagnosis using a diagnostic tool. Lift the chassis and insert physical calibration spacers. Lower the chassis onto the spacers by completely discharging the air from the bellows. Command the ECU to store the new vehicle height values.

  7. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes. If the procedure is successful, the suspension warning light on the instrument panel will turn off.
