Case IH 9 – Hitch Controller (EDC) / Armrest Controller (ARU) / TMF module: Hitch travel circuit has failed

The controller has detected an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power in the hitch travel speed potentiometer circuit. Because the controller cannot receive a valid signal to determine the operator's commanded hitch travel limit or response speed, the hitch system defaults to a DEGRADED state.

   With the key OFF, disconnect the hitch travel potentiometer and measure the resistance across pins A to C (should be 10,000 ohms ± 10%)

   Test the wire harness for continuity between the potentiometer connector and the Hitch/Armrest controller

   Check the harness for damaged wires, rubbed insulation, or a short to ground/short to 12V

   Ensure the controller is supplying the correct 5V reference and clean ground to the potentiometer

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery, or pull the specific hitch control fuse (e.g., Fuse #7 on Magnum 7200s) to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Component

   Remove the secondary control panel cover or open the armrest console where the hitch travel/response knobs are located.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the hitch travel potentiometer.

   Remove Faulty Part

   Remove the retaining nut or screws holding the potentiometer to the console bracket and pull the switch out.

   Install New Part

   Insert the new OEM potentiometer, secure it to the panel, and reattach the control knob.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness back into the new potentiometer.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the secondary control panel or armrest cover.

   Restore Power

   Reinstall the hitch fuse or reconnect the battery.

   Recalibrate

   The hitch system must be recalibrated anytime a hitch component (like a potentiometer) is replaced or adjusted. Follow the specific hitch calibration sequence for your tractor model.

    Clear Codes

    Clear the stored error codes from the diagnostic display and test the hitch for normal operation.
