Case IH 9 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC) / Electronic Hitch Controller: Both external lift/lower fender switches are being operated simultaneously

Descrizione del problema

The system detects conflicting inputs (a command to both raise and lower the 3-point hitch at the exact same time) from the remote switches located on the rear fenders.

Verifica la causa

  1. Check if the external lift/lower fender switches are physically sticking in the raise or lower position due to dirt, debris, or mechanical binding

  2. Inspect Fuse 9 in the tractor's fuse panel, which protects this circuit

  3. Use a multimeter to test the external lift/lower fender switches for internal shorts or failures

  4. Check the wiring harness connecting the fender switches to the central controller for damaged wires, loose connectors, or short circuits

  5. If all physical, fuse, and wiring checks pass, verify the Central Controller (XCM) or Secondary Controller (CFPS)

Passaggi di riparazione

  1. Clean the Switches

Turn off the tractor. Inspect the rear fender switches. If they are packed with mud or dust, clean them thoroughly and press them several times to ensure they spring back to the neutral position freely.

  2. Check the Fuse

Locate the fuse panel and inspect Fuse 9. If blown, replace it with a fuse of the identical amperage rating.

  3. Test and Replace the Switch

If the switches are not physically sticking but the code persists, disconnect the harness at the fender switch. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If the switch is internally shorted (showing continuity on both the raise and lower circuits simultaneously without being pressed), remove the faulty switch and install a replacement.

  4. Repair the Harness

If the switch tests good, trace the wiring harness back to the EDC/XCM controller. Look for pinched wires or rubbed insulation that could be causing the raise and lower signal wires to short together. Repair any damaged wiring.

  5. Clear the Code

Once the mechanical sticking, faulty switch, or wiring short has been rectified, clear the error code from the system and test the external fender switches for normal operation.
