Case IH 7 – Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) / Instrument Control Unit (ICU): Coolant Temperature Sender Short Circuit
Descrizione del problema
The control system has detected that the electrical circuit for the engine coolant temperature sender has shorted to ground or has an abnormally low resistance, preventing accurate temperature readings.

Verifica la causa
Verify the tractor's battery is fully charged and connections are tight, as weak batteries can cause voltage fluctuations that trigger false EIC errors.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sender.
Ensure the end of the disconnected signal wire is not touching any metallic part of the engine or chassis to prevent a false ground.
Turn the keystart to the 'ON' position with the engine 'OFF' and check the instrument cluster.
If Error Code 7 is still displayed, the short circuit is in the wiring harness or instrument panel. If Error Code 7 disappears, the coolant temperature sender has an internal short.
Passaggi di riparazione
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to protect the ICU/EIC from voltage spikes during repair.
Address Wiring
If the diagnostic test pointed to a wiring issue, trace the signal wire from the sender back to the instrument cluster plug. Repair or splice any pinched, melted, or chafed sections of the wire that are shorting to the chassis.
Replace the Sender
Locate the coolant temperature sender on the engine block or thermostat housing. Drain a small amount of engine coolant to bring the fluid level below the sensor port, preventing spills. Unscrew the faulty sender and install the new replacement part. Reconnect the electrical connector securely.
Refill Fluids
Top off the engine coolant to the proper level.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Disconnecting the battery may have already cleared the code; if not, use the tractor's onboard diagnostic interface or a Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored fault.
Test
Start the engine and verify that the temperature gauge registers correctly and the EIC 7 code does not return.
