Case IH 4 – EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Module: Hitch enable lamp failed

The controller has detected an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power (+12V) in the hitch enable lamp's wiring circuit.

   Turn the key to the ON position and check if the hitch enable lamp illuminates during the initial startup self-test (indicates a blown bulb if it does not).

   Verify tractor battery voltage; drops below 9.8 volts during cranking can trigger false hitch codes.

   Inspect the wiring harnesses connecting the upper cab/display to the hitch controller for rodent damage or moisture/mud contamination at the valve block connectors.

   Use a multimeter to test the circuit from the EDC controller pin to the lamp socket for continuity, open circuits, or shorts to ground.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Access the Display/Control Panel

   Remove the trim panels to access the rear of the hitch diagnostic display or the secondary control panel where the hitch enable lamp is located.

   Replace the Lamp

   Remove the hitch enable lamp bulb from its socket. Test it with a multimeter. If it lacks continuity, replace the bulb.

   Repair Wiring

   If the bulb is intact, trace the wiring harness back to the EDC module. Look for bare wires, rodent damage, or pinched lines. Splice and heat-shrink any damaged wires.

   Clean Connectors

   Disconnect the main harness connectors at the hitch controller. Spray with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect to ensure a solid connection.

   Test the Display Module

   If the wiring and bulb are good, plug in a known-good secondary panel to test. If the test panel works, the original display module must be replaced.

   Recalibrate

   After repairing the wiring or replacing the control module, perform a hitch calibration procedure (setting the upper limit, drop speed, and load control potentiometers) to clear the HALT condition and resume normal operation.
