Case IH 3 – TMF: Hitch Raise Solenoid High Side Driver shorted to 12 volts.

The control module has detected that the high-side driver circuit (the circuit responsible for supplying power to the hitch raise solenoid) is receiving or bypassing directly to a 12-volt power source inappropriately. This condition prevents the controller from properly regulating the rear (or front) hitch raise function.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the TMF controller to the hitch raise solenoid for melted insulation, pinched wires, or areas rubbing against the chassis.

   Disconnect the hitch raise solenoid plug and the TMF controller connectors to inspect for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge 12V power to the driver pin.

   With the key ON (engine off) and the solenoid disconnected, probe the high-side driver wire at the solenoid connector with a multimeter. If 12 volts is present when not commanded to raise, there is a short to power in the harness.

   Measure the resistance of the hitch raise solenoid coil to determine if the coil is internally shorted.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent further electrical damage or accidental shorting during repair.

   Isolate the Short

   If the multimeter test revealed 12V on the harness side, trace the wiring harness back to the TMF controller. Repair or splice the damaged section of the wire where it has shorted to a power source.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine, the fault is likely an internal short within the hitch raise solenoid coil. Relieve hydraulic system pressure, unplug the electrical connector from the hitch raise solenoid, unthread the retaining nut and slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem (or replace the entire valve assembly depending on the specific model's configuration). Install the new solenoid and tighten to OEM torque specs.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the tractor's diagnostic display (or a CAN-bus scanner) to clear the inactive TMF 3 fault code.

   Recalibrate

   Run the hitch calibration procedure via the armrest display to ensure the TMF controller learns the threshold of the new raise valve solenoid.
