Case IH 12 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller or Transmission Controller (TRANS): Communication lost with the armrest controller

Descrizione del problema

The tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus is no longer receiving data signals from the Armrest Control Module (ACM), preventing the tractor from processing commands from the armrest inputs.

Verifica la causa

  1. Verify Cab Power: Check if other cab functions (fans, radio, wipers) are operating. If everything is offline, the issue is likely a bad cab power relay or solenoid rather than the armrest controller.

  2. Check CAN Bus Voltage: Probe the CAN bus lines. The CAN bus operates on a nominal 2.5 VDC. The CAN High leg should read approximately 2.55V, and the CAN Low leg should read approximately 2.45V.

  3. Test CAN Bus Terminators: Terminator failure is a highly common cause for this communication loss on older MX series tractors. Unplug the terminators one at a time. If the rest of the network comes back online when one is unplugged, that specific terminator has failed.

  4. Isolate the Armrest Controller: Disconnect the plug on the rear of the armrest controller, turn the key on, and see if the other controllers on the network stay online.

  5. Inspect Wiring: Check for low voltage, bad grounds, or damaged wiring harnesses leading to the armrest.

Passaggi di riparazione

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power before replacing any electronic modules.

  2. Address Terminators (If Faulty)

If the diagnostic checks point to a failed CAN bus terminator (a known weak point on MX Magnums), locate the active/passive terminators on the tractor.

  3. Remove Old Terminators

Remove the old square 4-pin terminator.

  4. Install Upgraded Terminators

Install the updated "cap style" 120-Ohm resistor terminator. Because the new style uses a triangular 3-pin connector, you must install an adapter harness to connect it to the older 4-pin factory harness.

  5. Replace ACM (If Faulty)

If the terminators and wiring are good but the armrest controller is completely unresponsive, remove the armrest panel and replace the Armrest Control Module (ACM) / ECU.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect power, turn the key on, and use the tractor's display monitor (navigate to INFO > FAULTS) or a diagnostic scan tool to clear the fault code.

  7. Test

Verify that the armrest controls now communicate with the TMF/Transmission and that the tractor operates normally.

Ricambi che potrebbero servirti

(6)
  • CAN Bus Terminator Adapter Harness

    87558214

Converts the old 4-pin harness to the new 3-pin style; usually includes the new resistor-type terminator

    120 Ohm resistor, triangular 3-pin

  • Old Active Terminator

    284638A2 or 284638A1

Prone to failure; upgrading to the cap style is recommended by dealer service bulletins

  • Old Passive Terminator

    Obsolete

  • Armrest Control Module (ACM) / ECU

    48068685, 47443335, or 84165726R

Fitment depends heavily on the specific tractor model and serial number break
